Let's Respect Introduction

The Let’s Respect project was launched on 5th October 2006 at Aston University, Birmingham. It represents the culmination of over a years’ work, led by Nadine Schofield from the Care Services Improvement Partnership and Deborah Sturdy from the Department of Health. The project aimed to produce a ‘toolkit’ primarily for healthcare staff who care for older people with mental health needs in acute hospitals. Scroll down this page to read more about Let's Respect

Background to the project
Let’s Respect is the culmination of over a years work between policy makers and clinicians. The Project group and process was multi-disciplinary and multi-agency throughout. It harvested the knowledge, skills and contribution of all and incorporated the talents of a photographic artist to inform a campaign that so many of us should readily identify with.
Let’s Respect is a campaign aimed at better meeting the mental health needs of older people, focusing initially on generic secondary care settings and the three most prevalent presentations – depression, delirium and dementia. Most of the images used were taken in ’real’ locations by our commissioned photographic artist – Nudrat Afza – none of them are ‘staged’ and all have been selected to illustrate the key message of better meeting people’s mental health needs.

There is a Nursing Standard Good Practice guide, PowerPoint presentations and of course, the opportunity to purchase the Let’s Respect Resource Box for your area – filled with information presented in a variety of formats from small case studies in booklet form, to guide books and bookmarks.
