National Dementia Strategy
National Dementia Strategy
Care Services Minister Ivan Lewis announced on the 3rd August 2007 that the government will produce the first ever national dementia strategy. The strategy will focus on 3 key areas:
- Improved Awareness
- Early diagnosis and intervention
- Improving the quality of care for dementia
In November 2007, the Strengthening Involvement of people with dementia toolkit was the first document produced as part of this work.
CSIP are hosting a number of listening events across the country during February and March 2008. Click here to read more about how you can contribute to the National Dementia Strategy.

6th February 2008 sees the publication of the CSIP fact sheet on Creative Models Short Breaks for People with Dementia.
The aim of this fact sheet is to provide commissioners, providers and planners with information on a variety of innovative models of shortbreaks. It also aims to inform commissioning decisions by:
- Stimulating debate and understanding of the concept of short breaks in the context of the current policy agenda to provide 'personalised' services.
- Reviewing available evidence on short breaks services
- Suggesting principles that will enable the outcomes specified by service users and their carers to be met.
- Providing information on a range of innovative models of care, as alternatives to the traditional 'one or two weeks in a care home' model.
